Job Description – General Farm Worker
39 Hours per week including alternate weekends. Experience preferred
Duties to include
Milking
- Preparing cows and milking parlour ready for milking
- Milk cows, according to protocol and to required standards of hygiene
- Washing out of milking parlour and ensure it is ready for next milking
- Ensuring all dairy equipment is clean, well maintained and regularly checked
- Work to standards to ensure targets for cell count and bactoscan are met
Livestock Work
- Assess cows for signs of calving, ill health, oestrous etc. Treat each case accordingly (separate, medical treatment, feed etc)
- Administer and record treatments for sick animals according to protocol
- Calve cows according to protocol and record detail
- Care of new born calves according to protocol
- Manage new calvers into milking group
- Collect and Identify colostrum, test, and prepare for pasteurisation.
- Identify and separate cows due for AI
- General assistance with vaccinations, foot trimming and moving stock groups
Tractor Work
- Loader work including feeding and bedding cows, mucking out
- Scraping yard with tractor mounted yard scarper
- Some tractor work such as slurry spreading, topping, bale leading, land preparation
General duties
- Attend team meetings and key meetings with veterinary, consultants and advisors
- General maintenance including cleaning hutches, watertroughs and fencing
- Reporting and recording of events
- Support direct milk sales, events, visits and shows as required
