Job Description – General Farm Worker

39 Hours per week including alternate weekends.  Experience preferred

Duties to include

Milking

  • Preparing cows and milking parlour ready for milking
  • Milk cows, according to protocol and to required standards of hygiene
  • Washing out of milking parlour and ensure it is ready for next milking
  • Ensuring all dairy equipment is clean, well maintained and regularly checked
  • Work to standards to ensure targets for cell count and bactoscan are met

Livestock Work

  • Assess cows for signs of calving, ill health, oestrous etc. Treat each case accordingly (separate, medical treatment, feed etc)
  • Administer and record treatments for sick animals according to protocol
  • Calve cows according to protocol and record detail
  • Care of new born calves according to protocol
  • Manage new calvers into milking group
  • Collect and Identify colostrum, test, and prepare for pasteurisation.
  • Identify and separate cows due for AI
  • General assistance with vaccinations, foot trimming and moving stock groups

Tractor Work

  • Loader work including feeding and bedding cows, mucking out
  • Scraping yard with tractor mounted yard scarper
  • Some tractor work such as slurry spreading, topping, bale leading, land preparation
